What do you think Larkin would cost?
Would love to have Larkin, but unless he says he only wants to go to Boston or Boston is on a very short list, I don't see Boston having the best package.
Zacha, Toronto pick and Carlo trade keeps on giving.
Larkin is a great player but I don’t think we will get him.
Do you think they would trade him in the division?
I suspect the Leafs' 2027 1st rounder is gone along with another draft pick. Maybe Minten or Hagens as well. I'm sure there would be a division tax added to the B's, but if Sweeney could pull off a deal, that's a big addition. Larkin is quite good although most of the league is going to be in on him. The B's might not have enough assets to compete.
I think Boston has to make an offer, if Detroit is actually serious about a trade. I think the B’s can make a very competitive offer.
However … I’m not sure Larkin would want to join the Bruins. I don’t have any inside information, but wouldn’t he rather play for the Hurricanes, Canadiens, Mammoth, or Wild?
If Larkin has a no movement clause, he will likely choose to go to an actual contender. Even if it happened our thin defensive core precludes us from cup contention.
Anyone but Hagens and Minten.
This years first, Lohrei and Poitras + whatever else they want.
McAvoy and Swayman better be on the phone with him right now.
I'm glad you made the Bergeron comp. If the season ends better for Larkin and Detroit then he legit gets Selke votes. Of course, if the season ended better, he wouldn't be making the request…
How Detroit doesnt make playoffs with the players they have is also pretty damn insane.
He’s one of those players we have to at least make a great offer on. Whether Detroit is willing to ship him here or not is the question. I’d imagine The Leafs first, Poitras, and Letourneau would all be involved, with more on top.
Lohrei & Zacha + one 1st rd pick – would keep hagnes
Would love Larkin but not giving them laternau or zellers or hagens . Poitra zacha lohrei an this years 1st pick .otherwise im out .
Laternau will win hobey baker next season .
The cost for what you would get would be worth it for the Bruins oh but he wont come to Taxasachusetts
Assuming Larkin wants to play here, I don't think the Bruins will get a better chance for a long time if they miss this boat.
I will take it from the start. Court, thank you for your awesome analysis of this situation. ❤
IMO Bruins are still 2-3 years from competing a retool that may become a rebuild (who knows). Larkin is an awesome 2C and a good 1C but… Do we want to just repeat the cycle of: Bruins barely squeak into a playoff spot –> 1st or 2nd round exit –> Owner of the team is happy with ticket revenue –> Repeat the whole cycle?
I just feel like we should do the same process as Canucks are doing right now and Habs did in 2021. If done correctly they should suck for a few years and draft awesome new talent. We wasted our shots on the Cup in 2019 and 2023. Do the same with Pasta as they did with Marchand and trade him somewhere for a good return. We have a head start with all those 1st round picks (Florida and mainly the Leafs pick) and young potential 1C in Hagens and 2C in Minten. But this process should start mainly in changing Providence into a developement team rather than playing Patrick Brown on the 1st line. Trade Zacha to Kraken or Jets for 7th or 8th pick and draft RSD or a center/wing. Invest in young players and it will have returns.
Very durable player as well. The ask will be huge.
like I said on the skate pod cast, I think you offer Lohrei, Poitras, & Lysell for Larkin. if that is not enough, throw in a draft pick.
He'd cost more than we can afford to pay. The more I look at this teams needs and the assets we have, the more I sense how far away we are. I'm honestly starting to think we should trade Pasta. Let him flourish somewhere else and get a future 1C in return. Can't believe I've even entertained the thought. But ALOT needs to go right for the progress of this team in 2 to 4 years
So, I’m just gonna drop this comment before actually watching the video…
I don’t think the Bs have a realistic shot at Larkin. Would he help improve the roster? Yes, and significantly. All of the sudden we have top 10 depth at the Center position.
That said, I don’t think Yzerman is in a position where he’ll accept a trade built upon futures for a guy like Larkin. I think a hockey trade, or at least something close to a hockey trade is the most likely outcome here, specifically a center-for-center deal, and the Bruins simply don’t have the assets for that. Now, that really makes predicting the outcome of this situation difficult, because Larkin seems to want out because he wants to get some playoff runs in. The best trade i can think of would be maybe Dylan Cozens and some light futures for Larkin? Perhaps something with Anaheim could work as well, but other than that, there arent a whole lot of teams that have top 6 forwards near Larkin’s level who dont have trade protection.
Great video Court! I think Sweeney needs to go all in to try and get him because I'm not sure Thomas is going to be available. Sweeney needs to be willing to go for it and use the picks and prospects to try and snag Larkin. The Bruins have to get a 1C and this is one of their best opportunities to do so. The big question for me is if Larkin would want to come to Boston. He wants to be on a legit Stanley Cup contender now. Not one that might be in the mix a few years from now. I think he ends up with the Wild or the Habs, but the Bruins still have to try. My other concern is that I read that what Detroit needs most is goaltending and a chippy D. None of the players we would be sending back in a deal fit what they're looking for. I think it would take the first pick from Toronto, Poitras, Letourneau, Lohrei or Zellers.
