Whilst I fully agree with a lot of the comments about Babcock and did not expect him to get the opportunity AND would want someeone else ideally, someone on Oilers Nation (I think it was) said it is not just about Babcock — it is also about the supporting staff and like Austin said (with the right hires/signings) maybe we will get a stacked team like Detroit in 2008 as well. Big IF yes, perhaps, but the future is not set. Let's at least not be full doom and gloom before everything or anything has even been officially announced

Every year we feel more all in than last year, not just because it’s another year into McDrai prime, which is also a reason, but because oilers keep making mind numbing decisions. From hiring bowman, to the skinner trade, to now whatever this is.

people like babcock do not change. it’s in his dna to act the way he does. clearly a pattern that has not gone away on every team he has coached. dude should have faded from existence in the nhl after all this stuff previously dropped.
HR would fire any one of us for less but here the Oilers hire him knowing what a dick he can be. Do what is best for the team; not what McDavid says. Great player but he is not a coach and doubt he ever will be.

If this hire goes through, I believe it will be the beginning of the end for this cup window. I don't believe for a second that Babcock will treat the entire team respectfully, and there is going to be resentment towards the leadership group. This Oilers roster is not good enough to survive a fracture in the room
Honestly if the guys think he’s their guy I’m all for it. We need to shake things up.
This is why I don't have faith in them trading Nurse and obtaining some sort of net positive, this is why I think McDavid will leave and we have management that may let him walk. We have a GM that I feel is almost intentionally making poor decisions. I feel this is the same story in Toronto and Vancouver. The tin foil hat in me almost thinks some of these GMs in Canada are being paid off by other teams to intentionally make bad decisions. At this point they may as well program an AI to be GM, it might get things right 25-35% of the time.
Looks like Mike Babcock has already waged psychological warfare on the team's leaders, convincing them he is the right guy for the job as the new Oilers HC.
Sorry Austin. Hopefully, the Oilers realize how bad an idea that is; no team deserves to have Mike Babcock as an HC or even part of their organization, and to put up with his games. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

why was Knoblauch fired? Two game 7 cup finals in a row and an early PO exit. Management never addressed the goaltending problem despite McDavid signing such a super team friendly contract. I thought McDavid and Knobs were pals.
So he's basically an older version of McDavid?
And here you go for the people who wanted knobs out you get what you deserve, Bowman remains the GM you have a superstar with one leg out on this franchise it doesn't get any better if you're a rival of this team. This guy should not even been considered for a coaching position for juniors
