Look. Mike Babcock sounds like a POS. But it has never stopped being weird to me that bullying players and being a toxic, garbage human being have never been a barrier to coaching or really holding any position in the NHL. The NHL and NHLPA have done more to investigate Babcock, scrutinize and restrict his return to the NHL than any member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization that ignored credible allegations of sex assault from their video coach and then sent him packing with a letter of reference after inviting him to their Stanley Cup party.

The problem for the league is that it has never taken a zero tolerance approach for bad behaviour. And so when the PA or other finally want to take a tough approach, there are an endless list of precedents that get thrown in their face.

Why say anything but « RUBBER STAMP »?

I’m excited to see how this blows up in the Oilers face!

Regardless of the off ice stuff I don’t see why the Oilers would want to hire him. Hasn’t coached in the league in 6 years, only won 1 cup (which I get is one more than lots of other options) with a Red Wings team that was still a very good team, won Olympic gold with a Team Canada roster that could have won a gold coached by a 2 year old, and didn’t make it out of the first round with a Leafs team that had lots of talent (🤢).

Maybe, just maybe, the Oilers are dragging him through this public investigation to end up not hiring him as a way of getting retribution for some of the players that Babcock has previously treated like shit 🤷‍♂️

Soooooooo there were no other unsigned head coaches available over Babs?

I have heard that the VGK would not allow Edmonton to speak with Cassidy, which takes him outta play.

Gallant I’m sure would be too rough of a fit.

Unsure Roy would do well in Oiler country.

Any thoughts on who y’all would hire for the Oilers?
