Lots of questions this offseason, time to see who you build around going forward. I think a coaching change is needed, they played a very boring style this year, low event hockey leeds to no chance for wins
Benning,realizes he will lose Demko in the expansion draft(assuming they keep Markstrom) deals him to Detroit for local boy Cholowski or 2021 1st rd pick. Demko is on the same timeline as their prospects. Yzerman then signs Krug and offers Holtby a 4 yr deal, leaving Seattle to claim him and his contract.

Pietrangelo! Isn't it obvious? In 12 seasons he's only had 2 with minus +/- stats and neither was double digits, 25 minutes a game, point on the PP. Instant improvement….then add an NHL proven goalie….(Lehner?Holtby?) and Wings are at least a .500 team.
I wonder what a 2nd line of Stützle/Veleno/Zadina would look like?

With the expansion draft coming up I hope we don't go after any UFAs. Every extra player we sign means one more player that we have to leave exposed to Seattle. Best thing would be to take some other teams bad contracts for picks or prospects. A UFA goalie might not be terrible but everyone available this year is either not good enough or too old. Except maybe Lehner but I think he will end up getting overpaid by somebody so I hope it isn't us.
we wont sign a single UFA. I hope we dish Abdelkader, at least buy him out. Dude is so bad at hockey, that I started chirping him at LCA. I hope Fabbri can stay with us, and I hope Bowey can have a better season than last. Perlini isn't great but keeping him around wouldn't hurt.
They still need to sign and trade for picks and prospects. Don’t think they’re close at all to playoffs. But they have the money to do that.
As a Detroit fan we need to fire Jeff Blashill. I was very shocked that they didn't look like that after last season.
If we don't get Lafreniere I hope we get Drysdale.
If Mantha is about the team he will take a pay cut similar to Larkin so that the team will have even more capspace. I don't wanna see him signed for more than 4 or 4.25 mil

Bertuzzi is interesting. He's young,had a good season, plays with goddamn heart game in and out.. I see him for 3-3.5 mil for 3-4 years.
Daley's said he wants gone, big E is retiring, Abby should be waived and sent down for a leadership role in GR, free up line space for a young developing guy I stead of dead weight money bags.
If the Wings pick 2-4 I'd love to see them draft Stutzle, the bit of preexisting chemistry between him and Seider could be nice.
I feel kinda bad for Abby.. hometown guy, just released a book last year about his childhood dream of becoming a Wing came true (kids book) and all of the fans crap on him because of his contract.

Adding Krug and Lehner and some internal growth and this team makes a huge jump.
Telling you now Veleno is going to be one of the better players on this roster. Just gotta wait for the man weight to hit him, which may be longer then I want.
What do we think about Yzerman trying to use cap space as an asset to acquire a bunch of picks this upcoming year, grab another top ten pick in 2021, and then start spending in the years after? Our cup run will then be led by veteran Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi w/ Zadina, Stutzle (or other 2020 pick), and Veleno paired w/ some free agent signings on defense and goalie to pair w/ Seider, hronek, and Lindstrom.
If Krug lands in FA, he needs to be your #1 go after. Since Dustin B is a UFA now I wouldn' mind him on a 2 yr, first year guaranteed, 2nd yr an option yr. Both those guys are physical and make your D Corp. 100% better.

We need quality defensemen more than additional forwards. I would much rather secure Mantha, Bert & Fabbri, while adding a top pairing D-man to replace Errorson. Then we can see what the developing forwards we already have can produce in front of a defense that isn't a sieve, before adding additional forwards. That is, unless the NHL allows a couple of compliance buyouts this year, and we can dump Abby & Nielsen with no penalty. Then we can reasonably entertain adding some FA forwards, provided we also do the other.
Put Abdelkader on waivers, and if no one takes him, he goes down to the minors and his salary doesn't effect your cap.
if, and thats a big IF, but if the Red Wings get the first overall pick I hope they talk to the Senators about a trade, top pick for there two picks, insane but….
Great content as always! Having watched 85% of the games this year, I will agree that nothing was going right, but place 75% of the blame on a completely inept D core. Could not connect on passes and get the offensive guys in rhythm at all. Looking to next year, you get DeKeyser back healthy who can eat minutes better than Green, Daley and Ericsson. Future of the defensive core is Hronek (easily Defensive MVP), Lindstrom, Seider and Cholowski (if he can figure it out). Hopefully these 4 will push DeKeyser, Biega and Nemeth into better positions than they were forced to play due to the aforementioned aged and frequently injured rearguard. I totally agree that both projects, Bowey and Perlini, are not being brought back unless on 2 way deals.
While I'm cautiously optimistic about the potential of this younger D-Core next year, it would not surprise me if Yzerman takes on a pick and a vet contract from a contender who slots in on defense (unfounded example: Goligoski on Arizona if Chayka wants to make cap space to retain Taylor Hall).
Pipe dream to me would be bringing in Pietrangelo for a 4x$7.5M to bring a vet into the room who is a workhorse, a winner and a leader. Detroit's young and needs guidance in the locker room with a cup ring rather than the executive suites.
I can't agree more with the overhyping of Larkin… the kid is good, but not THAT good. He's just good on this team because everything else around him is so mediocre lol. I expect the rebuild to take awhile and I'm fine with that, looking forward to going back to LCA to see this team play good hockey soon.

As a massive Wings fan, your view on Larkin is spot on. Definitely overrated by some and I see why because of how he made an impact right from the start. But he’s a 2C at best on a good amount of teams when some want to think he’s a 1C no matter what. Also, certainly underrated by those who don’t watch the Wings much or aren’t fans of the team.

I went from being really excited about the Wings prospect pipeline to terrified we just flushed 4 straight years worth of draft picks down the drain, all in one offseason. Right now I think Cholowski is a bust, Svechnikov is a bust, Rassmussen is a bust and if Joe Veleno isn't a bust, it is now at least abundantly clear why he fell all the way to the end of the 1st round – he looks a lot like a 2nd round pick. Seider looks like the real deal (although we once said that about Brendan Smith) and Zadina might eventually learn how to skate like a top line NHL guy, but man… that's a lot of draft capital down the drain if they're the only two who work out; let's just say I'm at "pray we win the lottery" here…
i'm pretty skeptical on mantha contract length and amount. he's making me scared of becoming another franzen for how much he gets injured as a 6'5" guy.
Dekeyser is the worst contract on the team. He is 3rd Line talent at best making twice what he is worth. Ken holland was king of dog sh*t contracts. In stevie y we trust.
