Really no other choice, because there wasn't enough coming back in any trade, and they're not into a rebuild. I'm not worried longer-term, as the cap will jump. The Canucks weren't going to fix their problems with a Miller trade. In two years, the Myers contract expires. Nobody is going to take Pearson, so I guess it's Garland on the hot seat, especially if Höglander bounces back. If Kouzmenko has a good year, they'll have a tough time re-signing him, so they're not really that deep at forward, either. I see a decent team that's capped out and doesn't have much of a pipeline.

Wow all the talk of a trade. It’s obvious there wasn’t as many offers as they were projected. If there was a trade would have been made. JT still got a decent contract, good for him.
i think they both compromised to maker this deal. the drama is over and the fans know what the team looks like now and what to hope for.

half the league is cash strapped right now and i think that goes to the greed of ownership. aquilini's is terrified to have 1 or 2 bad seasons. shed the stars for draft picks and draft high to build a cup winner a la tampa, detroit, what montreal is doing now. thats how you win a cup. in his 18 years, he has put 1 team together that was a contender but ended up crapping the bed at the big dance. canucks may or may not make the playoffs this season, will not get out of the first round if they do and will be drafting where they did in july, 2022. a recipe for mediocrity.
Loui Eriksson 2.0? JT has put up average points through this whole career. Has one 99 point season and expects the world on a gold platter? He won’t make it passed 99 points this season. Bo Horvat is gonna rip it up this season.
Miller signs 7 year extension with the Canucks ! Yaaah Baby ! Having said that, many would think JT should take over as Captain. I even pondered that myself ! Having given it some thought , I think no. Why ? Simple….Bo may not be the biggest star on the team, but he's the most consistent. I've always been impressed by his effort and leadership. Truth is , I believe Brock and Petey will have break out years as well this season. How do you pick one of these superstars over Horvat?. By Bo ( who deserves it for many reasons), remaining captain I feel the true balance of this team will be served ! Hey 31 goals last season….Helloooo !
Rutherford's comments were in the mirror comments when he came in, and frankly Boudreau was well on his way of proving this is a top ten team. He did prove that as they were i believe 8th overall under his tutelage. After a much larger sample size of results under Boudreau, the new management under Rutherford's tutelage has come to their senses and realized what they actually have. With that in mind they have made some really good additions that has improved the team to the point they are now a top 5 team. Under that reality the new management correctly sign Milsy for a fair market offer and contract solidifying the teams future even more and even brought back Boudreau to work his magic once again. The new management has done a really terrific job thus far improving the team a lot which is what it takes to move from a number 8 team to what some of us think is a top three team but more likely a top 5 team. This team is an unrecognized contender now and it will take probably half a season for the fans and talking heads to wrap their heads around reality. Note the fairly large sample size of 57 games seemingly wasn't enough of a hit over the head of reality to convince most fans and talking heads that this team is really a good team. Boudreau will hit them over the head this season until they give up their negative view point and embrace reality. Can't wait for the season to start. Boudreau will be serving up lots of free Crow Pie to all those negative nellies, lol.
Such a prime example of a rumor cycle that took on a life of its own..just listening to Rutherford comments on multiple occasions..seemed unlikely there was validity to the endless rumor mongering..it was to Canucks advantage to retain the 29 year old. 🥅🏒✅

The question is, how do they unload the OEL contract?? Any ideas? I don't like the idea of trading away draft picks in order to unload this contract. But they could sure use that cap space. Thanks, Jim!!!

Oh yeah! JT miller is now locked up for 7 years. He is the kind of player every GM in the NHL dreams about, especially what he could do in the intense playoffs that demand sacrifice of the body. He can play everywhere in your lineup and he is a special teams all star as he can dominate both the PK and the PP which is very rare and highly coveted. In a post covid you have to live day to day so all that matters in this 7 year contract is the next 4 year Demko/Hughes window. This is the best time for the Canucks to make a push with a top 5 NHL goalie a top 5 puck moving #1 Dman and a top 5 center depth with Miller,Pettersson,Horvat down the middle. Thank you JT!
