Good move,enough of boughner,let's bring in a real coach,
Sucks to see Bougy go, you could tell he was a players coach, but with that said, can't wait to see Brodie behind the bench coaching next season…
Now I'm waiting for that other call that happened 3hr after
I am very confused that the Sharks have no new GM or coach, now. Isn't a GM suposed to be in charge of hockey operations? Daft, player personal, coach and assistants? It seems like everything is happening backwards. Daft coming no GM, the FA are coming July 13, No Gm, rookie development camp coming NO GM or Coach? What's going on? Joe Will says their's time, but really, unless he's the next GM, IS THERE TIME???
What's a way they've gotten better that doesn't involve a new GM or coaching staff that can make the team better??
Sharks made so many mistakes this year that the whole management stinks, and now they have scapegoated Bob Boughner, an embattled and not successful coach who they abandoned during a declining season. Mistakes included 1) loss of Evander Kane; 2) no adequate replacements for Kevin Labanc and other injured players such as Erik Karlsson and Mario Ferraro, prospects did not fill in for injuries and covid-19 protocols made this worse, lineup was unstable all year;
3) management in limbo as Doug Wilson era was expiring, no good waiver claims or trades all year, stagnation at the top; 4) Jake Middleton trade weakened the defense depth; 5) Cogliano trade to Avalanche for a 5th round draft pick was a steal for Colorado, should have been higher pick (2nd rounder); 6) Sharks have one solid line (Meier, Hrtl and Barabanov), no functioning power play, and need much more grit and scoring, probably from UFA pool. They could get older and cheaper scoring muckrakers like Cory Perry or take a chance with hot dog lover Phil Kessel to help their power play/special teams. Cheaper UFAs such as Illya Mikkheyev from Toronto could make big difference to depth next year.
7) The amount of time they have taken to change management indicates deep confusion in team direction and lack of leadership. How can a headless team do the best job at the draft and in the UFA market in July? 8) The Barracuda finished 31st in the American Hockey League (last place in whole league), indicating that the Sharks prospects and not as good as other teams. They must do a much better job drafting a new set of prospects and in building the team character. Sharks had a cursed season in 2021-22 and resetting the team is necessary to win back fans. It will take more than 5 years to re-build the team with high draft picks and UFAs, and good luck for a management team that has not had any for a long time.
Got that other call Brodie?
firing bob was a mistake in my mind but its our loss, if Las Vegas doesn't pick him up though that would be a huge missed opportunity.
The management team and executives are out of their depth here, very poor hockey sense and knowledge. They were trying to lose this year to get a good draft pick and even that went horribly wrong as they are were more closer to the middle then the bottom. Here we are, a week away from the draft and we have no GM or coaching staff, and the same old guys making picks that have not panned out for years. This team is a dumpster on fire for years already. Plattner you seriously need to start fresh and dump the whole staff, including Johnathan, joe will, doug wilson jr and everyone else. Before fans and season ticket holders used to have a voice @ state of the sharks, all gone now. Don't expect fans to come back until you start getting things right
The scouting team has already identified their players, so in that sense they’re fine without a GM. But a good GM at the draft is making calls & taking calls to move up/down in the draft. I find Joe Will to be way too passive and I believe he was fleeced by other GMs at the trade deadline last year.
In addition, if the Sharks enter the free agency period without a coach or GM…who is really going to be signing with a team that doesn’t have those important pieces in place? Is it just arrogance on Joe Will’s part thinking he can handle all this?
