  1. Wow… thought he was gone for sure. I had heard Malkin wanted 7.5M/yr, which I thought was outrageous, given his annual injuries. 6.1M is still a bit too much in my view, but Pens obviously have no issue with it. Not surprised Crosby stepped in to help get this done. Still think Pens need to get younger, but they had a better than expected last season, and if not for goalie injury problems, would have taken the Rangers out., so maybe there's more fuel in the tank than a lot of us thought.

  2. Penguins called Malkin's bluff lol. I think he knew he wasn't going to get that type of deal with anyone else.

  3. Malkin not in a Pens jersey would have been weird. Love to know what the offers they did offer Malkin before Crosby stepped in.

  4. I can't hit the like button. It stands at 71 likes and it would feel wrong to change that. I'm just happy they came to a deal.

  5. My god the penguins are screwed in the short term future, they have no good prospects coming up the pipeline and all the guys that made them good are in their early to mid-30s and are signed for 4 years or more. This is the exact same pitfall that Detroit fell in.

  6. So a least a "reasonable' figure for the years and his years. Still productive though with 42 points in 41 games.

  7. Happy for malkin, he doesn't have to uproot and move.. but when one top tier player becomes unavailable another goes to UFA all eyes are on gaudreau now

  8. WOWsa!!! This is breaking news for certain –I thought he was done with Pittsburgh, so, this is good, right? It's certainly good for them in keeping the core together and maybe go for one more Cup.

  9. I’ve been saying for years that this team needs to be getting older if they want another cup. They need to go out and pick up a couple more 35+ year olds to have any chance.

In all seriousness, they’re falling into the same trap Detroit and Chicago did. There seems to be a “That could never happen to us” mentality among some Pens fans. This team ain’t winning another Cup with this core, with or without Malkin.

  10. SO HAPPY!! No way we could have replaced him this year. THE ELITE STEEL CITY CORE WILL REIGN STILL! haha WOOOO!

  11. SORRY THEY WILL STILL GO OUT IN THE FIRST ROW NOTHING GOING CHANGE LETANG NEED TO GO HELLO WATCH YOUR SEE OUR PLOBLEM IS DEFENSE THEY CANNOT DEFEND PITTSBURGH NEED TO SWITCH UP THERE DEFENSE

  12. To bad for Malkin. Has to spend his whole career in Crosby's shadow. He must have a crappy agent.

  13. As a penguins diehard fan Malkin is NOT a good resigning. He’s not a two way player and he takes a shit ton of unnecessary penalties.

  14. Smart move by Pens signing Malkin last. I'm sure others interested in Malkin were suspicious of his knee injury. Even as a Pens fan, I wouldn't have minded seeing Malkin go the Rangers to win a few more cups. The Pens are done. They couldn't get past the first round in the four previous seasons. Rackell isn't going to change that. The division as a whole got better with acquisitions by CBJ and Canes. The Pens didn't get any better.

  15. Big mistake. They should have traded all these guys away and start the re-build. Come back to this 4 years from now and they will have no players and no picks of value and no recent success to talk about….
