Idk why everyone is talking about his win loss record. Just listen to the man speak. Very intelligent hockey mind. Of course he has to walk the walk but as for now, he’s saying all the right things.

Great addition at head coach. Definitely a post season head coach who would make changes necessary to use his available assets to achieve the Cup. Now… Mr. Zito… make some player trades & acquisitions during the off season & let's see what happens.
Paul Maurice is a definite upgrade from Panthers interim coach.
Wait & see how upcoming contracts come & go.
I hope this decision was more of bruno wanting to step back than panthers wanting a new coach… it's hard to justify when Bruno took us to our first playoff series win in 20 years, best team record, president trophy, and being a Jack Adam's finials. Did he make mistakes in the playoffs yes, but just like the players he going to learn from those mistakes.
Mixed feelings. His teams in Carolina and Winnipeg had mediocre talent, so it feels like he will have a better shot here. An experienced voice makes a lot of sense for this group. At the same time, he hasn't proven hardly anything as a coach. We'll have to see. Zito has proven us all wrong a few times, so I am inclined to trust him at this point.
He’s got a better team than he ever did on Winnipeg. We’re fine.
Now, he has been known for his press conferences. And so one probably had to know coming in, that he would say some good things. But like Jaws said, at least he addressed the specific things of importance for this team. It's the play away from the puck, not just the offense. It's about playing smart. And for me most importantly, it's about preparing for the playoffs all season long.
That's how you succeed, it's how you prepare.
Every day, you work on elevating your game. So that you can be ready to take on all comers during the regular season and the playoffs. It's about playing at a high pace during practice, like Q had them doing. And I hope what Maurice said translates into tight defensive structure as well.
That said, can't know what's going to happen until it actually does. So we'll see how this plays out.
It isn't the sexy hire. I personally wanted Trotz. Bad.
But the Maurice hire gives something for those that didn't want Bruno here (I)– and those that wanted Bruno to stay.
Maurice IS Brunette. He just has more experience. He's coached one more season than Trotz.
For those of us that felt we needed someone with experience? We have it. Those that wanted Brunette to stay? You have him. He's just an Andrew Brunette that knows how to beat a 1-3-1 trap.

Hi there. I live in Winnipeg. The Jets are my favourite team. I absolutely loved PoMo as head coach here. He's real, he's funny, he's very good at what he does. I was devastated when I heard that he decided to step down as head coach of the Jets, but I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. You guys have got an absolutely awesome head coach. He will instill and practice a solidarity between the coaching staff and the players like you've never seen before. Everyone in Winnipeg misses him already, and if you want proof of that… Just wait until the first time the Panthers visit Winnipeg and see how loved the people here will show him that he was… and is. He wears his hockey heart on his sleeve, and holds accountability. He also makes his players hold their own accountability. A true leader. If it's okay with you guys … I'd like to follow the Panthers this season upcoming as a "second favourite" team… Paul Maurice will make a huge difference in an already amazing roster. Congrats!
I understand why we got Maurice. I got away from watching his interviews that he FITS right in to Florida Panthers culture. I love Zito is trying to create that same atmosphere as does the Miami Heat with basketball. I loved the bit where Maurice said of flipping channels and being intrigued when he saw the Panthers playing, his son also being accepted by UM beckoned him to knock on the door. Can’t wait for October #timetohunt

I think Maurice was an ok choice. I did like the press conference though. He seems like a smart guy and is eager to coach the Panthers. He has a plan for next season and beyond. At the same time, I'll reserve judgment until the season gets underway. What looks good on paper or in the press conference doesnt always match what happens during the season. I'm just glad Tortorella was not named coach. Thank God. Tortorella would be an absolute nightmare for the players, assistant coaches, and the fans. The Panthers would have been going backwards under Torts, which is what happened when Torts was coach in Columbus and Vancouver. Torts is Philly's problem now hahaha.
As for Maurice, let's just hope what he said in the press conference translates onto the ice.
Hopefully Bob and maybe Barky will take some salary reductions to keep other players on board. Sometimes there are other financial benefits that come from playing on a contending team – commercials, endorsements – that can make up for a cut. Huby basically 'evaporated' during the playoffs. U don't want to be too judgmental, I wondered if he might have been playing while injured. He might be another one who would take a cut because of his playoff performance. Some of the players might want to weight the 'Possible Cup run vs Salary Money' balance question. Zito ought to explore if any players under contract would do the same. I think Cooper was really gunning for the Panthers, and a ways down the line we are going to see that the sweep by the Bolts was a bit of a fluke. I'm not saying there isn't work to do, but I think Cooper had the Cats pegged, the Bolts shot blocking was phenomenal, and Vasi was sh*t-hot (and hasn't been since). I'm not saying the Bolts aren't great: they have a lot of offensive tools, and they are more flexible when it comes to countering the playing style of the other team. The latter is something the Panthers didn't show us, and it really hurt them. Just my 2 cents.
In terms of Brunette, are there any of the 're-build' teams that want to focus more on offense where he might get a chance if he doesn't want to stay in FL? Maybe the Wings?
If they move Brobrosky, I think NYR are trying to move Georgiev. He has shown flashes of brilliance, and his stats look good. With Knight, that might be a solid and cheaper tandem.

I copied a good article from the Athletic. I think it pretty much sums up why Zito made this move. "I didn’t elaborate on why, but the reason is that Maurice would have been better able to go head-to-head with Peter Laviolette (Washington) in the opening round and Cooper in the second round, adjusting away from the things that weren’t working. There’s a calm gravitas to him at this stage of his career and he’s clearly had a chance to recharge his batteries in the past seven months, after elements of burnout started to sap his energy levels."
Another one." My sense is that Maurice wouldn’t have taken just any job at this point in his life. It had to be the right job – an opportunity to finally get a team over the finish line. He will gather the Florida leadership group – Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Aaron Ekblad – seek input from them and then use that knowledge to tweak a team that really doesn’t need a lot of improving."
Last one . And yes, I believe this was a fantastic hire by Zito."The Panthers are such a good team that any new head coach should have the Stanley Cup within their sights. Maurice’s 2017-18 Jets were his best and rival the Panthers in terms of all-around quality. If Maurice arrives in Florida as the 2018 best practices version of himself, his ability to generate buy-in and earn the respect of his team’s most important players should guide Florida into the playoffs with ease. Whatever discontent he left behind in Winnipeg likely does not exist in Florida, where his top players are too talented and too well-developed to accept anything less at this point."
