  1. Looks like this is going to be a requested destination I would say. I feel as if players are going to want to come here. That's a nice change. What a summer. Seriously considering getting a tattoo of PD.

  2. So who is leaving next year to make room for Debrincat's contract? Projecting some of the contracts next year with the same roster with some very conservative estimates, I have them at $6,705,071 over the cap with the dead cap included. Zaitsev is only 4.5 mil and he isn't gone yet. Unless Dorion knows something about the cap raise next year that the rest of us don't.
It will be very interesting to see how they wrangle with this next year and that top 4 D man they want to get.

  3. Stutzle has been better defensively than he has been offensively to this point in his career, especially since his move to Centre. He's got a super high motor and can outskate guys on the backcheck, not to mention the way he uses his puck skills to settle the play and break out cleanly from the defensive end. I'm sure the offense will materialize with his improved linemates, but the deal looks so much better when you consider how good he has been defensively.

  4. Waiting on a long term contract was the only thing stopping me from buying a Stützle jersey! time to get my first named jersey!

  5. Just watched the boys skate today at Sensplex and they were flying. No wonder Timmy had such a big smile on his face!

  6. Really like your point here, Pillsy:

"…With [Stutzle] signing now, as opposed to the end of this year… the core guys are taking a look at the potential and being like 'Look–if all of us kind of agree that we know where we're heading, and none us of become selfish and try to get top dollar…we can build a contending team and start something special here in Ottawa…to allow the management to continue to be able to build.'"

  8. Love Stutzle but I suppose that is the end of a Debrincat extension unless he has a down year points wise and can take a salary cut. If Debrincat scores 40 there is no way they get him under 9 million. I think the Norris and Giroux contracts will seem like handcuffs soon enough. Stutzle also has to perform this year with atleast 70 points and 25 goals.

  9. I think this helps DeBrincat decide to stay long-term. Ottawa’s got all these guys locked in for many years. So he knows the team ain’t gonna go to shit any time soon. Improving the top 4 D would also help.

  10. Pierre Dorion is almost completely vindicated from his years of questionable moves.

  11. Fantastic.Their main core group are all signed.Looking good Ottawa looking very good.If Dorrion could get a second pairing right shot that's developed and young then watch out eastern teams

  12. I'm a Pierre guy…but tbh don't like the move…I don't get y u can't wait a year…feels more like a look at me and look at us move… don't get me wrong, I believe Tim is gonna be a top 10 player in the league…I just feel Bryan Murray would of waited the year

  13. 2 years from now, I think this deal is gonna be a steal. If they can somehow convince DeBrincat to sign long term, this team is set at forward for years to come.

  14. I’m thinking with no contract monkey on his back through the year we just bought an extra 15-20 points from Tim here

  15. I'm just hoping that they can extend Debrinkat for around the same. the only problem after that is it will be tough to expand their D core if needed.

  16. Been a fan since I was a kid in the 90s and beside the Alfie, Heater, and Spezza days, this is the most excited excited I’ve ever been looking at the future of the team. Here’s to hard work and luck going our way!

  17. Absolutely love to see Stutzle sign now rather than at the end of the season playing with Giroux and DeBrincat

  18. I'm very confident we will be looking back at this deal in a couple years' time and wondering how we got such a steal. Great move. This core is SOLID

  19. guys, can you do one on how awesome it is that the sens have now also hired chris phillips? it's great for the team, and really great for chris… he really got hosed by his business manager, and i'm glad to see him back on stable ground financially!…. i have been saying it for a while now, and chris getting picked up after wade redden being hired as a d coach just makes me feel like alfie is coming to the front office! full circle!

  20. Given one season with the young talent and you will see DeBrincat wanting to sign long term as well.

  21. With Pinto, Zub, Hamonic, Talbot, Holden, Watson AND Debrincat all on expiring contracts, this gives a decent amount of cost certainty when next summer arrives. Bravo again Pierre

  22. Timmy has always had a special place in my Sens heart. Even though he was picked with a Shark's first I always saw his pick as the crown jewel of the rebuild. To have him commit to the team; early and at what should be a discount after year 2, means so much to me. The best is yet to come!

  23. Great signing. I like it. There core is locked up for years. Maybe Sanderson will be good enough to be part of it in a couple of years. They can just walk away from DeBrincat rather than pay him whatever an arbitrator decides which would make him a UFA. That will leave them with the money they will need for guys like Pinto and Zub and Sanderson. Whether they do that remains to be seen. Maybe they will be able to trade him next summer if they can find a team willing to shell out the 9 million. Hopefully they don't decide that they don't need a bottom six or a D core.
