  1. So sad, he was an absolute legend. Almost all my positive memories of this team have him and Harry Neale doing the play-by-play and colour commentary together. There was truly something special about Saturday HNIC knowing those two were calling the game, I miss those days. RIP

Back when our broadcast was the best. True homers.

    Sad 🙁

  3. Growing up in St John’s Newfoundland, my best friend’s father drove a taxi. Every week he would drive to the airport to pick Bob up and bring him home to CBS and would pick him up there and take him to the airport. Got a ton of cool stuff over the years. HNIC towels, pucks, signatures etc. Bob was an amazing soul. Thankfully he left a huge mark in hockey and gifted us with countless memories. RIP Bob.

  4. LEGEND!

Will always fondly remember his calls during those Leafs-Sens series from the early 2000’s. Absolute goosebumps and class.

*Gilmour was hit! Inside the line by McSorley! And this is gonna draw Clark and McSorley into a racket! And there going, throwing punches! Ohh! Clark is nailing McSorley!!*

I could literally spend hours writing out my favorite calls from him. The best.

    RIP.

Stumpy Thomas’ Game 5 OT winner in 2000.

The exact moment I went from « sort of paying attention to them as a teenager » to devoting my sports-watching life to the Leafs, all narrated by the best to ever do it.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Bob Cole

Oh no. Bob and Harry were the voices of my childhood. Rest in peace, legend.

  8. BallHarness

Him yelling Joe Sakic at the 2002 Olympic final is forever imprinted in my brain

  9. Loved listening to this guy. Absolute beauty. I’ll happily tell my kid « back in my day » stories when he’s older about when HNIC was the crown jewel of hockey broadcasting.

Unrelated to this sad day, but what a fucking dump Rogers has turned it into with guys like Craig Simpson doing commentary.

The greatest hockey voice ever! So many memories you provided and such an amazing talent!

  11. ClassicRockCanadian

Bob was, bar none, NONE, the best most electric voice in hockey broadcasting in the play-by-play booth. He was the guy every aspiring play-by-play announcer emulated. God rest his soul.

I’m devastated. No one was better at playing off the crowd. His sense of timing was immaculate.

His call on Sakic’s goal in 2002 will live with me for the rest of my days.

    Oh no 🙁

Rest in peace Mr. Cole, you were a beauty and brought me much joy for decades

  14. I guess we will smile today, and maybe a tear or two is comin’

  15. Noooo 🙁 He was my favorite and a big part of my childhood.

    RIP to a Canadian legend.

  16. CheapPopMan

A part of many people’s lives, his voice will always be the voice of hockey for me and many others. Rest in peace Mr. Cole.

  17. I will never forget those moments of long pauses between he and Harry Neale, only to be broken by Cole yelling « DOMIIIIIII » after witnessing Tie do Tie things.

  18. And now we get Craig Simpson and Craig Cuthbert uggh..

RIP legend, you will be missed.

  19. JohnYCanuckEsq

    Oh no.

This is not totally unexpected, but still… Right in the feels.

  20. Hope he didn’t see the Leafs let him down one last time

  21. elcabeza79

RIP Bob. I was literally thinking of you fondly last night while listening to Cuthbert call the game and wishing it was you instead.
